Nice and cheery

Like CodenameBob said, it's cool to hear pizzicato used in such a happy way.
I'm in agreeance with a lot people have said--this would fit so very well on a Sims game, the bass drum could be a little better, but that aside it's a really solid piece. The arrangement of the instruments really works well. You can't listen to this without it bringing a little smile to your face, although I wish there was an overtly happy chord at the very end just to finish it off. xD

Good work all around, though. Nicely done.

Theledge93 responds:

well thank you so very much! like i told mister Bob, the pizzicato strings seem like a happy instrument. i don't know why but that's how they sit in my uneducated little brain of mine.

"Sometimes an uneducated influence is the best." - me

befitting don't you think?

Epic.

Can't faut this, at all.
The rhythm's spot on every time, the instruments are insane. And it's always good to hear a screamer who can actually scream well! The guitar riffs are very well executed, even moreso when it's harmonised. The way the song develops is also very, very good. Enter more synonyms for awesome here.

Less pertinent, but you band name/the song name are very interesting. Sunset Black was reason enough to click and see if the music was as cool as the name, needless to say I wasn't disappointed. Awesome work.

xGrimlockx responds:

I love you.

Cool.

I like it!
I think basbalfan55 and oddfellowfloyd said it all, realy--it's a really nice abstract minimalist piece, the kind you could just listen to over and over. I could see this working in a flash on here, no problem.
The way it built up and ebbed away was good, though having it do so a little more would not have gone completey amiss.
The ending is very nice; abrupt, but fittingly so.
Really solid work here, I almost wish there was more music on NG that was as archetypally minimalist as this. Good job!

EmperorCharlemagne responds:

I have come to really like minimalism as of late. I like writing music like that. I had another orchestral minimalist piece (much slower and dissonant), but the file size was too big for the AP. Alas.

Glad you liked!

Very melancholy

I like the melody; it's simple, but haunting.
There's something about the three chords at 0:16ish that really works well; makes it sound like everything's getting destroyed...the kinda sad music you'd hear in a movie where the sound of the storm itself is muted out and all you hear is this and all you see is he destruction it causes. Very emotion-evoking.
The second line of the melody at 0:46 is beautiful, simply beautiful.
The piano at around the 2 minute mark really does remind me of rain, and the three chords straight after it again really work well.
And hwat can be said about the harmonies leading up to the end...there are no words.
I love the little dissonances you add in...not to mention there's this motif that seems to go on through the whole thing, which is a feat in itself.
Really, really good work.

CodenameBob responds:

thanks a million, thats exactly word for word what i was going for, everything you said is what i was shooting for, you seem to understand music and its phsycology very well

Haunting.

So glad you did this without the tenor and bass. It's so beautiful as it is.
So amazed you sang this all yourself. The sheer effort that must have gone into that is a commendable thing in itself.

But that aside...this is so, so very epic. Hopefully the reams and reams of tens have helped establish this fact more than I could here.

It's just so pure and ethereal. You have a fantastic voice, seriously. So lots of you together makes an awesome piece to listen to. I think this is my 8th listen in a row as I type. xD

And I've run out of synonyms for "this was epic".

As others have said; more please? You can never have too much of an incredible thing. Kudos, seriously. 10ed, 5ed, downloaded, applauded. Thanks for posting this.

VGSongbird responds:

Well thank you for listening! It did take quite a while to pull the parts from the song, because they blended so well. I'm glad you thought the effort was a success ^_^

Spine-tingling.

Very haunting, I love the way it layers up. The melody at 0:47 or so is both beautiful and chilling, how it develops seems very beautiful and characteristic somehow.
What can I say, the instruments were picked well and used well, your skill at producing a piece is very tangible. Nice solid work; good to see it's being used in a flash, too. Congrats!

If this is "messing"...

...I'd hate to see what you could produce when you put your mind to it!
For something out of genre, this is very good indeed.

This was really good; I like the way it built up, the general arrangement of it was also cool. 0:26 onwards is getting to be even moreso; the drums really serve you well in getting the piece into a more frantic and desperate feel.

Wish it was a little longer, though at the same time the abruptness of the ending adds to the desperate feel, so it can work either way. Nicely done.

nightsurfermusic responds:

Like you and I said, it was only a bit of messing around. I am currently improving the song, i'll probably upload another one with some improvments (longer song, louder instruments, things like that.)

Thanks much for reviewing! :)

Short but cool nonetheless

You said it yourself, this is great suspense music.
I do wish it was a little longer just because it works so well and I'd love to have heard more, or maybe just started with less stuff and built up further.

But as it stands, it's intense, the instruments work well (especially the drums), and the harmonies by the end all compound on the suspense just as you'd want them to. Nice solid work, well done!

Awesome.

The beginning was very cool, the way the drums led the rhythms in an interesting way, not to mention the unconventional and yet good harmonies of the instruments.

And there's something to be said for synth that isn't piercing or make your ears want to bleed! That aside, the melody itself is catchy and varies enough for the song to not seem repetitive.

The ending again has the air of the awesome unexpected, while being pretty funny at the same time xD. If you were going for a Tetris feel, that'd be when the game would be over, definitely.

To say 'this was unconventional' for the last time-the shakers and claps forming much of the percussion was a nice touch, and it does fit the piece more than I'd imagine snares or toms would

I'm not an avid Hip-hop listener by any sense of the word, but this still sounded awesome to me. Great work here, thanks for posting it.

Scribbler responds:

Yeah, I really love using maracas but as people have pointed out in subsequent reviews, I like using them a bit too much. So now, I'm trying to "diversify" as they say.

Thanks for the review!

Nice work

My only real criticism is that it's too short. I would have seriously loved to see where this piece could go if you extended it a little bit more.
Though that aside, I think it's enjoyable to listen to. The sparse bass part is a really nice touch; the emptiness of it gives it an very tangible melancholy feel, which is always epic in piano pieces. Nice work. More next time, maybe? (:

SynthetiCake responds:

I think ill expand on this x]

thanks n.n

Not much to say...I like writing music, hoping to improve a lot on that front. I like reviewing things, as I'm far too opinionated not to. I'm amazingly awkward as a person. But all in all, I mean well. (:
